Volkswagon & Audi Engine Codes

All USA Volkswagon and Audi cars have whats called an "ENGINE CODE" this 3 or sometimes 4 letter code designates the exact engine used in the vehicle. The reason it's important for us locksmiths is that it can be used to determine what immobilizer system is in place and wether or not we can read the pincode and or program the keys using Tcode Pro or MVP Pro.

How can we find the engine code for a car?

1. Look for a sticker like the one in the photo below located in the vehicles trunk or hatchback spare tire area.
This sticker from a 2007 JETTA shows this car is fitted with a BGP engine.


Once we know the cars YEAR, MODEL AND ENGINE CODE we can know for sure if we can read the cars PIN CODE and Program the keys or not (see chart below)

** 2006-2008 Passat requires the engines ECU (Computer) to be powered to read the pin code. If you have a working key this is no problem just turn the car on to read the pin. 
However if no key is available you will need to supply power to the ECU fuse in the Fuse Box.
The pics below shows a new special order ADC-187 specialty cable being used. It is only used for PIN READING and removed and fuses placed back in place for the Key Programming.
